FAQs

When is the best time for this tour?
The ideal window is April to October (Madagascar’s dry season):
April-May: Mild temperatures, lush landscapes, fewer crowds
June-August: Coolest, driest conditions – best for trekking comfort
September-October: Warming weather, excellent photography light

Avoid November-March (wet season): Trails can be muddy, some remote routes may be affected by heavy rain, and cyclones are possible January-March.
How challenging is this tour?
This tour is rated Moderate-Challenging due to remote trekking: ✅ Marojejy trek (Days 3-6): 4-8km/day on steep, uneven rainforest trails
✅ Ankarana tsingy exploration: Rocky terrain with harness use
✅ Suitable for active travelers with good fitness
✅ Not recommended for travelers with significant mobility limitations

Preparation tip: Train with cardio exercise and hill walking 2-3 months before departure.

Will I see rare wildlife in Marojejy?
Marojejy is one of Madagascar’s most biodiverse parks! While wildlife sightings are never guaranteed:
Silky sifaka lemurs: Extremely rare, but possible with patience and expert guides
Helmet vangas, Madagascar serpent eagles: Endemic birds with high sighting probability
Chameleons, frogs, endemic flora: Abundant and easily observed
✅ Your guide knows optimal viewing times and locations to maximize encounters

Even if the rarest species elude you, the pristine wilderness experience is unforgettable!
Can I customize this itinerary?
Absolutely! While the core northern route is optimized for logistics and highlights, we can:
✅ Adjust duration (add rest days or extend beach time in Diego Suarez)
✅ Upgrade accommodations to luxury lodges or eco-resorts
✅ Add extra activities (cultural visits, photography workshops, diving)
✅ Modify trekking intensity based on your fitness level

Essential packing list:
✅ Sturdy hiking boots with ankle support (critical for rocky tsingy terrain)

✅ Rain jacket or poncho (even in dry season)
✅ Sun protection: wide-brim hat, UV sunglasses, SPF 30+ sunscreen
✅ Insect repellent (DEET-based recommended)
✅ Camera with extra batteries/memory cards + zoom lens for wildlife
✅ Binoculars for wildlife viewing (highly recommended)
✅ Reusable water bottle + water purification tablets
✅ Basic first-aid kit & personal medications
✅ Headlamp for night walks and camp

Optional: Trekking poles, lightweight daypack, travel adapter (Type C/E)

Is travel insurance really mandatory?
Yes. Madagascar’s remote northern terrain requires comprehensive travel insurance that covers:
✅ Emergency medical evacuation (including from Marojejy and Ankarana)
✅ Trip cancellation/interruption due to weather, illness, or injury
✅ Lost/delayed baggage and gear
✅ Trekking/hiking activities up to 2,000m elevation

We can recommend providers experienced with Madagascar adventures. Proof of insurance is required before departure.

Do I need vaccinations for Madagascar?

Yes, we recommend consulting your doctor 6-8 weeks before travel. Common recommendations include Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, and routine vaccines. Malaria prophylaxis is advised for most regions. A Yellow Fever certificate is required if traveling from an endemic country. We’ll provide a detailed health advisory with your itinerary.
